Private William Joseph Gadsden 25205 Bedfordshire Regiment

William was born in 1896 in London. He was the first child to William Thomas Gadsden born Whipsnade and Ada Goss from Kilburn London.

It is not known when the family came to Eaton Bray but 1911 census shows a 7th child named Archibald Walter was born in the village in 1909. Census also shows that William Joseph at the age of 14 was working on a farm.

Joining in June 1916 he was drafted to France at the close of his training in the following December. He took part in severe fighting at Arras, Vimy Ridge, Ypres and Passchendaele and was killed in action near the latter place on October 6th 1917. He was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.
