British Legion Poppy Appeal 2012

This article was published in August 2012. Please see Latest News for more recent information.

PoppyWould you like to be a Poppy Appeal collector in Eaton Bray this coming November? We already have a brilliant team of house to house collectors in Eaton Bray, but we need a few more to replace those who have moved etc. It means going out and door knocking for a designated road or small area, either in the evening or on a Saturday during daylight. It can be cold and wet in November, so warm waterproof clothes are sometimes essential. A thick skin can help too - we know a few houses where nobody answers when Poppy Appeal collectors knock!

If you'd like to join the team, please contact us.

2011 Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal - Eaton Bray

This article was published in December 2011. Please see Latest News for more recent information.

PoppyMany thanks to all the house to house collectors (including the new ones this year) and to all the shops and premises in Eaton Bray who hosted a poppy box. The total for this year is £2110.58 and this is just over 16% up on last year. Our real thanks though go to all of you who put your hands deeper into your pockets when times are getting tighter.

The children and staff of Eaton Bray Academy deserve an enormous merit star because they increased their donations by £40.00 to almost £128.00 - fantastic!

If you would like to join the Eaton Bray collecting team next year, or if you live in Edlesborough and would like to know what's involved with becoming the Poppy Appeal organiser for Edlesborough, then please contact us.

2010 British Legion Poppy Appeal

This article was published in October 2010. Please see Latest News for more recent information.

PoppyKeith and Jean Stanley have organised the annual Royal British Legion poppy appeal in Eaton Bray for the last ten years. Our thanks go to them for the superb job that they have done.

They have now handed the job of local poppy appeal organisers over to us and I sincerely hope that we will do justice to it. We will contact all the house to house collectors on Keith and Jean's list (apart from those that we know are standing down this year) closer to the time. We will also supply local shops and premises with poppies and collecting boxes as before.

If you could help the appeal by giving a few hours of your time to collect house to house from one or two roads in Eaton Bray then please contact us. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Royal British Legion Annual Poppy Appeal 2008

This article was published in December 2008. Please see Latest News for more recent information.

PoppyAlthough this year's appeal took place during two weeks of almost continual rain, hail and snow, Eaton Bray's renowned generosity ensured that the Royal British Legion would once again benefit handsomely.

This year's collection amounted to a magnificent £1973.14.

From ourselves and the Legion we offer our thanks and gratitude to all who helped with the appeal collection and to everyone who opened purses or pockets and gave so generously to help those from the armed forces who are in need. Again this year we have been heartened by your kind and supportive words and are grateful for your continuing encouragement.

Thank you. Keith and Jean Stanley. Hon. Organisers.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2007

This article was published in October 2007. Please see Latest News for more recent information.

PoppyOur house to house collectors will be making their rounds between 27th October and 10th November and once again we are asking that you give as generously as you can to help the Legion as it works tirelessly to help ex-servicemen and women who have encountered difficult times and hardship.

Without the Legion and without your help many would be in dire straits. One ex-serviceman who had been supported by the Legion summed up the help he had been given with these words. He said "The help I have been given has enabled me to stop looking back with sadness and encouraged me to look forward with hope."

For a variety of reasons several of our long serving house to house collectors are no longer able to help so we have a need for volunteers willing to give a little time during the dates mentioned above to this deserving cause. Jean organises the list and would be delighted to hear from anyone able to help. House to house collections are an important aspect of the appeal both financially and in keeping us all aware of the Legion's valuable work.

It takes only a little time to make a real difference to the life of someone in real need. Thank you, Keith and Jean Stanley.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal - 2006

This article was published in October 2006. Please see Latest News for more recent information.

For 85 years the Legion has supported and cared for those who have suffered as a result of their war service and for their families; from World War 1 to the sad events taking place today. The Legion is as relevant today as it was when instituted all those years ago and there can be few families not touched by the distressing results of war.

The Legion reaches out to as many of those in need as possible through its wide range of welfare services now under the blanket name of `Poppy Support'.

This year Remembrance Sunday falls on 12th November and house to house collections may take place between 28th October and 11th November. Please give as generously as you can. While there is war, there will be need!

Keith and Jean Stanley. Hon. Organisers.
