EB Lions U9 Reds - 4
AFC Luton - 1

Eaton Bray Lions AFCWhat a great match, the conditions were wet and slippery but this did not stop the Lions putting on a great display in this league cup quarter final. After 5 minutes Dax Roe took his chance well to go one up.

The Lions were in control of the game, but on 11 minutes against the run of play AFC Luton scored an equaliser. It was only two minutes later that Roe got his second. The Lions continued to dominate the match and then a minute before half time Roe got his third for a great hat trick.

After the half time substitutions it was only two minutes before the Lions got their fourth from Jack Quigley and only some good saves from the AFC Luton keeper meant the match ended 4-1 to the Lions. This was a strong team performance in a high tempo match with all the players giving their best.

Team: Roe, Quigley, Nevitt, Oliver, Barbato, Mines, Higgs, Giblin, Shrowder.

EB Lions U13 Girls - 2
Cranfield - 0

This was another great match for the Lions, a game that they dominated from start to finish.

Goalie Nancy Oliver was commanding and kept another clean sheet. In defence Katy Thiel and Eden Scott coped with anything that came their way from Cranfield; the midfield was dominated by Darcy Ashby, Devon Ferguson (who as GoM), Emily Hudson and Bethan Woolsley; up front Hattie French, Megan Viljoen, Elsa Kirkwood and Shannon Byrne always looked dangerous.

On 27 minutes French scored for the Lions after a great move by Ashby and Hudson and it was 1-0 at half time. The Lions started the second half strongly and could have gone further ahead many times but it was with two minutes left that Ferguson scored a well deserved second goal and the match finished 2-0 to the Lions. This was a well deserved win over a team that finished runners up last season. Lions were well organised and determined.

Team: Oliver, Thiel, Scott, Ashby, Ferguson; Hudson; Woolsey, French, Vjljoen, Kirkwood.

St Martins - 1
EB Lions U9 Reds - 4

Eaton Bray Lions AFCEvery boy played with conviction and purpose and never allowed St Martin's to get into the game.

With only four minutes gone Dax Roe laid the ball back to Karl Shrowder who put the Lions ahead.

It was only another three minutes before Jack Quigley got the Lions' second from some good football involving Jack Nevitt and George Oliver. The rest of the first half saw the Lions pushing forward and when they needed some solid defending it was Freddie Mines with Nevitt and Oliver who did it.

Goalie Toby Higgs was confident and distributed the ball well.

The second half started with more of the same from the Lions, always busy and chasing every ball. After another good move involving Roe and Nevitt it was Quigley who put the ball in the back of the net for his second and the Lions were three up. Then after a quick break Lions were unlucky to concede a goal but it was only five minutes later that Roe got the Lions' fourth goal and the game finished with a well deserved 4-1 win.

Team: Roe, Quigley, Nevitt, Oliver, Barbato, Mines, Higgs, Giblin, Shrowder.

Hatfield Youth - 0
EB Lions U13 Girls - 6

This was a friendly match where both teams had players away on holiday and against an unknown opposition.

Lions travelled to Welwyn Garden City to play to enable both teams to gain more match time. Lions started strongly with two goals in the first eight minutes both from Eden Scott. The rest of the first half was controlled by the Lions with many goal scoring opportunities but the first half ended 2-0.

As this was a friendly we made many substitutions and players were tried in different positions. Four minutes into the second half Darcy Ashby scored with a long range shot and then after more pressure GoM Megan Viljoen scored twice in four minutes to make it five.

Katy Thiel scored her first goal for the Lions to give the Lions a well deserved 6-0 win.

In goal Nancy Oliver had another good match and kept a clean sheet.

Team: Oliver, Thiel, Scott, Ashby, Ferguson, Viljoen, Kirkwood, Byrne.

EB Lions Reds U9 - 1
Brache Sparta - 1

Eaton Bray Lions AFCLions had a key player of sick and most of the team had been to the school disco the night before. Although Lions had a good start with a goal after four minutes from Jack Quigley, they looked a different side to normal.

With continued pressure it was only a determined opposition and some good goalkeeping that kept the Lions at bay. After 15 minutes Brache scored the equaliser and it was 1-1 at half time.

The second half saw the Lions have most of the play and another strong display by Tom Bartbato at fullback helped to ensure that the match ended level. The Lions now need to get back to their normal game to ensure that this display is a one off.

Team: Quigley, Nevitt, Oliver, Barbaro, Mines, Higgs, Giblin, Shrowder.

EB Lions U13 Girls - 1
Leighton United - 1

What a great start against a well organised and determined opposition in Lions' first division one match. With most of the pressure coming from the Lions they could have got on the score sheet on a few occasions during the first half.

But United's Emily Tickell, Leonia Moore and Louise Eddy closed down Lions' attacks. A commanding display in goal by Lions GoM Nancy Oliver kept shots out by United's Alyss Lander. Chelcie Page played an excellent role in centre for United.

The second half saw Sammy Beharry take over the most forward position back up by Clara O'Halan and Georgia Pennington for United. United went 1 -0 up through a left footed shot by Pennington.

Ten minutes later Lions equalised with a corner from Darcy Ashby and a well placed shot from Hattie French.

This was a high tempo match with good football being played by both teams. United GoM Katie Dickerson.

Lions' team: Oliver, Thiel, Scott, Ashby, Ferguson, Hudson, French, Viljoen, Kirkwood, Woolsey, Byrne.

EB Lions Girls U13 - 1
Cranfield Girls U13 - 2

Eaton Bray Lions AFCAfter only four minutes Lions were unlucky to concede an own goal and had to dig deep to pull themselves back from an unfortunate start. With twelve minutes gone Darcy Ashby scored from the penalty spot to put the Lions back on level pegging. For the rest of the first half Lions were the stronger team and came close to scoring on many occasions with some good efforts from Hattie French and Megan Viljoen up front.

Lions made various substitutions during the match but were unable to find the right combination to put them ahead. With all the pressure coming from Lions it was only a penalty decision against Lions that enabled Cranfield to regain the lead. Again Lions pushed on with everyone pushing forward doing what they could to equalise. Katy Thiel was GoM with a strong all round performance.

This was a real team effort from Lions with everyone giving their all.

EB Lions U15 - 3
Bushmead U15 - 2

This was a very competitive and closely fought match with plenty of action producing scoring chances for both teams. Lions were first to score when Crace neatly flicked the ball over the keeper, though it seemed to take an age for the ball to reach the net.

Lions lost two players to injury during the first half, but excellent play by MoM Audouard, Ali Thorne and Thiel prevented Bushmead from equalising until Lions were too slow to clear the ball in the final minute before half-time.

Five minutes into the second half Gus Thorne passed over the defenders to Marshall who coolly chipped the ball over the keeper to score Lions' second. Bushmead retaliated almost immediately with a superb shot from close range leaving Lions' goalie no chance. Lions piled on the pressure again and were rewarded with the winning goal when a great attacking move left Crace free to score his second with five minutes remaining.

Memorial Park Whites U9 - 4
EB Lions Blues U9 - 0

Eaton Bray Lions AFCEB Lions were out of the blocks quickly with David Wood, Connor Tough and Robert Bunting (captain) marshalling the midfield well.

They should have gone into the break in front, but found themselves a goal down despite dominating play.

The second half saw a great debut performance from Lee Saunders, who combined well with Jack Reynolds on the left. Bradley Hicks and Luke Jearrad in defence both put in a tremendous tough tackling display.

Upfront, Matthew Kennel) ran tirelessly creating chances continually testing the opposition's goalie. Performance of the day went to the EB Lions goalkeeper MoM Ollie Mulcahy who commanded his area well and produced some truly outstanding saves.

With such a great team performance the EB Lions will find this defeat hard to swallow; but they will take heart from their overall efforts, and with continued hard work, dedication and some long overdue luck they will turn the tide.

Letchworth Garden City U13 Girls - 1
EB Lions U13 Girls - 3

This was a match that the Lions needed to win to improve their chance of getting into Division 1.

From the start Lions looked the stronger team and after 10 minutes Hattie French scored after some fine passing and movement.

At half time it was 1-0 but could have been far more. After the break Lions got an early goal from Bethan Woolsey after a long throw from French. With six minutes remaining Megan Viljoen scored their third after a strong run and then in the last minute Letchworth broke through and scored.

Lions produced some good play throughout the match, controlling midfield with Darcy Ashby, Katy Thiel, GoM Devon Ferguson and Eden Scott putting in some very strong performances.

Team: Oliver, Thiel, Scott, Ashby, Ferguson, Hudson, French, Viljoen, Kirkwood, Woolsey, Byrne.

EB Lions U8 Blues
Sacred Heart U8 Sapphires

Eaton Bray Lions AFCLions received an early wake up call as The Sapphires slammed home a loose ball within a few minutes of kick-off, forcing defenders James Glover and Joe Thorne to draw together and effectively seal the gaps.

A string of fine saves from Cameron Burchill cut off any further efforts at goal for the remainder of the half, freeing an adept Lions attack force to go on the offensive. Ollie West and Toby McGee both saw some goal mouth action, but it was Sam Carter that sliced an incredible ball past the keeper. Midfielder Sam Bramston doggedly stuck to Sacred Heart forwards as they upped the pressure, and Lions continued to press, making some potent attacks.

The midfield trio skipped past the Sacred Heart defence to leave them ball watching.

Ultimately though, even Lions steadfast defence and Cameron's acrobatic saves could not prevent a Sacred Heart goal in the last few minutes.

EB Lions U11 - 4
Barton Rovers U11 - 5

Lions went 0-3 down within 25 minutes, but throughout the opening half maintained a goal threat, which Sean would eventually capitalise on minutes before the half time whistle. Still it had been a torrid 30 minutes, with an under-pressure Dan parrying hard to salvage a scoreline which might have swung much further in favour of the visitors.

Following the break, Lions found a new gear and defenders James, Tom, Charlie and MoM Aarin refused to capitulate, holding off any further strikes and firing shots deep into the Barton half, where they were expertly fielded by forwards Adam and Will P, as well as mobile mid fielders Chris, Aaron G, Alex P, Sean, Will J and Ben.

A brace of searing goals from Adam and Charlie had the Lions on level pegging, and the team looked set to capitalise on a new found impetus. Still the Barton side were not finished, and returned fire with two of their own, pulling ahead. A final strike from Sean brought the scoreline almost level, but ultimately the clock ran down and the home team were forced to concede a narrow loss.

Harlington Juniors U12 - 6
EB Lions U12 - 1

Lions were well beaten by league leaders Harlington who maintained their 100% start to the season.

The boys were 0-2 down within ten minutes but then matched Harlington for the remainder of the first half. Captain Scotty Mercer went close with a well hit free kick. Just before the break keeper Harry Rogers made a great save tipping a shot over the bar. Harlington added a third early in the second half before Scotty immediately scored an amazing goal for the Lions.

From the restart the ball was passed back to Scotty who hit an unbelievable strike from well inside his own half. The ball took one bounce over the keeper and into the net. Both Matt Bramston and Ed McBrearty went close but the Lions could not match the strong play of Harlington.

Lions MoM was Jayden Newman for an energetic gutsy display on the Lions right.

Eaton Bray Lions Reds - 5
AFC Luton B - 0

Eaton Bray Lions AFCLions continued their strong start to the new season with a good result against a busy and determined opposition. After three minutes, Tom Barbato put Lions into the lead with a long range shot, but it was not until two minutes before half time that Dax Roe scored the second, which saw some good passing and movement from Lions.

After making substitutions at half time, it was only four minutes before Roe got his second from a well placed shot and then four minutes later Jack Nevitt added the fourth.

Lions made their final substitution with five minutes to go and Jack Quigley came on and made it five.

Eaton Bray Lions U13 Girls - 1
AFC Kempston Colts - 3

A great match with Lions taking control from the start. Nancy Oliver did well in goal coping with a very long throw-in.

It was from a long throw that there was a forced error that gave Kempston the lead. Lions changed keepers due to an injury and Shannon did well to cope with the long throws for most of the remainder of the match. Lions controlled defence and midfield with a great performances from Katy Thiel and GoM Darcy Ashby.

Ten minutes into the second half, Megan Viljoen scored a well deserved equaliser and from then on it was all Lions until, against the run of play, Kempston's long throws caused more problems and Lions conceded two goals in the last five minutes. Lions were the stronger and better team so this was disappointing.

Woburn Lions U15 - 5
EB Lions U15 - 0

The first half of this County Cup match was a close fought affair. Dear and Moriarty worked hard for the visitors in midfield whilst MoM Gus Thorne and Taylor in defence thwarted the challenges of Woburn.

Even when Woburn managed to break through they found Ali Thorne just too good for them in goal and it was goalless at halftime.

Early in the second half a long shot from Woburn sneaked into the top corner despite Thorne getting a hand to it. EB responded quickly but a great cross from Audouard was kicked over the bar by Moriarty. EB failed to clear the ball from their area quickly enough, allowing Woburn to score their second, and then EB lost Audouard through injury.

This gave Woburn the edge they needed and they went on to score a further 3 goals as they overwhelmed a tiring EB team in the closing stages.

Brache Sparta Spartans US - 2
EB Lions US Blues - 3

Eaton Bray Lions AFCBack from the break and into the game as if these players had not once taken their eye off the ball, the Blues launched into play spurred on by their fervent supporters.

Mid-fielders Sam Carter, Joe Rabey and Ollie West slotted some accomplished passes between Brache Sparta's defence, delivering effective balls to centre forward Myles Frederick.

First half goals from Joe and Ollie saw the Lions end the opening twenty minutes on level pegging with a talented home side, but the Spartans had no answer to a third goal after the break, courtesy of Myles.

Taking turns in goal, Toby McGee and Cameron Burchill pulled out a string of stunning saves, aided by a sturdy back line consisting of Joe Thorne, James Glover and Sam Bramston.

A fine opening start to the season and a promising performance from a bunch of talented young players.

Luton Borough Dragons U9 Whites - 5
EB Lions U9 Blues - 1

The match started in emphatic style with both teams playing an open game. Ollie (captain) Mulcahy in goal made some outstanding saves and was protected well by some decisive and brave takles by Daniel (flip flop) Challis and Bradley Hicks. Unfortunately, the EB Lions were 2 nil down at half time.

MoM Connor Tough was pinnacle in midfield along with Robert Bunting and Luke Jearrad aiding in providing cover to the defence and feeding the attack.

But it took a great majestic solo run by Matthew Kennell to put the Lions on the scoresheet to make it 3-1. Other great performances were by the versatile Jack Reynolds who played out of position to cover injuries and David Wood upfront who relentlessly came back searching for the ball to try and get the Lions back in the game.

The only disappointment from a great team performance is they went down 5-1, but the season looks bright with the commitment they showed alone.

EB Lions U9 Reds - 4
Bushmead U9 - 1

Lions were away for the first match of the new season and what a start. Only having played one previous match as a full squad this was always going to be a good match against a strong opposition.

Lions started well with a goal after three minutes from Jack Quigley then after fourteen minutes George Oliver got their second. The match was evenly balanced with both teams playing open, high tempo football.

Lions made their first substitution at halftime and scored a third goal after a great run from Dax Roe, two minutes later Bushmead scored and the pressure was back on as they pushed forward looking to get back into the game. With five minutes remaining George scored his second and Lions finished 4-1 winners.

Birthday boy Tony Barbato put in a superb display in defence and was unlucky not to score.

This was another great team performance from the Lions.

Barton Rovers Youth B U12 - 1
EB Lions U12 - 6

Lions recovered from a poor first half to emphatically win their opening match of the season.

Midway through the first half Barton deservedly took the lead. Lions' keeper MoM Harry Rogers was in inspired form and made three excellent saves to keep his side in the match. William Poole's great pass set up Ed McBrearty to pull a goal back just before half time, to give the Lions a flattering interval score line.

However in the first minute of the second half Jayden Newman scored to give the Lions the lead and they never looked back. Jamie Holt blasted the third with a fantastic long range shot. Matthew Bramston scored two goals and Ed got the Lions sixth and his second to wrap up a great win.

Harry made more great saves in the second half and Jakob Knappitt was superb throughout in the Lions defence.

EB Lions U13 Girls - 2
Dunstable Colts - 0

This was it, the first time Lions had played together this season and what a great start. With both sides playing well it was 24 minutes before Emily Hodson put Lions in front. With most of the pressure coming from Lions they were unlucky to be only one up at half time.

During the match Lions made lots of substitutions to try and find the right balance for the team.

Ten minutes into the second half Darcy Ashby scored Lions' second from a corner. Although the Lions were always in control Dunstable got a goal on the break with ten minutes left but three minutes later Devon Ferguson went on a run and scored Lions third.

This was a good match and a great team effort. GoM - Eden Scott.

2007/2008 Season Round-up

Our Under 12's had previously tasted cup success when winning the Under 9's Chiltern Junior Sevens League Cup. This season they reached the semi-final in both League and County U12 Cups, beating several high placed division 1 teams along the way. Not to be outdone, the young players of the Under 8 Reds team also impressed us. They showed a maturity of play well beyond their tender years and also reached the semifinal of their cup competition. Meanwhile the Under 9 team were successful in the league, stringing together a run of twelve consecutive victories to finish runners-up in division two of the Chiltern Junior Sevens league.

We established two new girls' teams at under 10 and under 12 this season. Few if any of the girls had played competitively before but they showed enormous enthusiasm and the results improved beyond our expectations as the season progressed. The under 10 Girls finished in the top half of their league. Given that the girls were all new to this and were playing some established Clubs we think this is a remarkable achievement.

Other Club News

A major achievement for the club this season was receiving FA Charter Standard Developing status. We are one of only 8 clubs in Bedfordshire to do so. The FA Charter Standard Programme provides recognition that clubs are well run and sustainable, with child protection and safety paramount. It also recognises a club's commitment to coaching, player and coach development, and the raising of standards of behaviour in the game - all of which are big priorities for the Club and the FA.

We have made several new appointments during this year. Lewis Taylor will be Senior Coach to act as a mentor to new coaches. Nick Bramston is our fitness coach and Steve Rogers our goalkeeping coach. Carol Mercer is our New Team Co-ordinator - seeking out players for new teams each season and forging links with local schools.

Thanks

The club would like to thank Eaton Bray and Edlesborough Parish Councils, Edlesborough School and Dagnall Village Hall Committee for their continued support.

Record amount raised at fete

The record sum of £3,700 was raised at the Dagnall village fete.

The sunshine attracted the crowds, who were glad to spend towards the provision of a new all-weather track at the village recreation ground and towards school funds.

Cathy Bovington at the school said: "There was a great community spirit. It was a wonderful day."

The fete on Saturday (May 10) included many side shows, family races and games.

There was a display of vintage cars and motorcycles and staff member Adrian Bush ran a goal shooting attraction on behalf of Eaton Bray Lions.

Sally Thorne organised the family races and also the hog roast which followed in the evening and included a disco for the children.

Eaton Bray Lions AFCIn the last match of what has been an exciting and successful season we were away to the runners up in our league, having already beaten them twice we knew that they would be looking to try and get one back.

In what turned out to be a great match there was nothing between the two teams. With the score 0-0 at halftime we made our substitutions and with six minutes left we went one up and then straight from their centre they ran at us and scored the equalizer and then the rest of the match was very tense with both sides pushing to score the winning goal but the match ended in a draw. This was a great match to finish on and gives us plenty to look forward to next season.

Kev and Steve thank all the players and parents for their support this season.

EB Lions U10 - 3
Barton Rovers Gunners U10 - 6

The visitors netted almost immediately, but the goal would prove Lions' wakeup call as they responded to the pressure and an arcing strike from Sean evened the scoreline.

Barton maintained their attacking surge but, testament to keeper Dan and some stylish defending from James, Mason and Aarin, were held at bay until the closing minutes of the half, when a controversial goal landed. Any sideline debate would prove academic though, as Barton struck four more times in the second half.

Still Lions would not succumb without a fight, and displayed some of their most accomplished football to date. Ben took up position in goal and pulled off some impressive diving deflections, while Charlie and Tom knocked the ball easily between the Barton defenders. Forward Adam finally saw his hard work pay off as he drove a corner ball into the back of the net, while MoM Chris slotted a crisp pass to Dom who completed beautifully to bring Lions' tally to three.

EB Lions U12 - 1
Cranfield - 1

What a great finish to a great season, at home against a team that needed to win to stand any chance winning the league. The Lions were on fire, controlling the game from start to finish. With some strong runs up front from Hattie, who scored a great goal from a corner, and Megan who kept the pressure on the Cranfield defence.

Lions controlled midfield with Darcy putting in another strong performance and Elsa and Emily ensuring that we kept the pressure on Cranfield. In defence Katy and Devon (GoM) showed what a strong pairing they have at the back, with some great runs up field to assist our attack.

When Lions made their substitutions Beth and Shannon worked hard and continued to protect our goal while also pushing forward to help in midfield. In goal Nancy again looked confident and made some good saves.

Kev and Kazza would like to take this opportunity to thank all the players and parents for all the support they have had this season.

EB Lions U8 Blues - 0
Luton Borough Dragons U8 Whites - 6

Eaton Bray Lions AFCThis always promised to be a tough encounter for Lions, facing league leaders Luton Borough, but having held on to a narrow 3-1 defeat previously, there was understandable disappointment at the end result. And so there should have been after an accomplished performance from all players.

Forwards David Wood and Toby McGee worked hard on the ball and made some promising runs, while midfielders Luke Jearrad, Matt Kennell, Connor Tough and Jack Reynolds produced a string of impressive one-twos to bind an ever improving Lions side.

In defence Bradley Hicks, Daniel Challis and MoM Robert Bunting held off a heavier defeat. Keeper 0llie Mulcahy faced a sustained onslaught but saved more balls than Luton Borough were able to net.

EB Lions U8 Reds - 0
Crawley Green Lions U8 - 2

This was always going to be a hard game, away to the top of the league. Lions started strongly and had a lot of the possession but couldn't find a way through a well organized defense. Lions were solid at the back and coped well with anything that came their way. At half time it was still 0-0 and everything to play for; Lions made their substitutions and started the second half well.

Ten minutes into the second half Lions had a harsh penalty awarded against them and went one down. Then four minutes later, with a free header, Crawley scored again. Lions continued to try and get one back and came close a couple of times but it was not to be.

Brache Sparta U10 - 1
EB Lions U10 - 1

Lions maintained a recent surge in form to draw 1-1 with Brache Sparta on Saturday thanks to a last gasp goal from Dominic. A gripping encounter saw the visitors press the home team relentlessly from the opening whistle, with a catalogue of shots fired in from all angles. In the end it was testament to the skills of the Brache keeper that Lions were able to net only once.

Stand in keeper Ben nevertheless had his hands full and easily matched the opposing goalie with some sharp saves and confident takes. Excellent defensive work from perennial star performers Aarin, James and Mason kept the Brache strikers at bay, while Charlie, Adam, Sean and Tom all had scintillating chances on goal.

Chris, playing in defence, prevented a handful of corners but Brache went ahead in the first half, a lead they would retain until the final ten minutes.

EB Lions U12 Girls - 8
Barton Rovers U12 Girls - 0

After a great season this was the match when it all came together for Lions. From the start Lions looked good and were always in control. Against a strong wind it was 9 minutes before Lions got their first goal from Darcy with a great volley from a corner. After 20 minutes Megan got her first goal, Lions' defence of Devon, Beth and Shannon were solid and coped well with a strong wind. Lions' manager was confident that playing with the wind in the second half would ensure more goals.

One minute after kick off Megan got her second and ten minutes after Darcy (GoM) got her second. Then with three goals in three minutes from Megan and a penalty from Hattie, Lions were on the way to their biggest win of the season. Lions' midfield of Elsa and Emily controlled midfield totally so goalkeeper, Nancy, had little to do but pull off a couple of good saves when needed.

St Josephs U8 - 5

Eaton Bray Lions AFCThe opening goal for Lions came seven minutes in, as Connor Tough set up Matt Kennel) for a deft finish.

More good runs came by way of Toby McGee to keep the pressure on a tough St Joseph's side, who were forced to play defensively.

The occasional attacking burst was quickly dealt with by a steadfast back line comprising Bradley Hicks and Robert Bunting, who stopped every forward play made by the visiting team.

Following the break, St Joseph's reapplied themselves and pressed forward, inspiring Ollie Mulcahy to bring out his finest work. Sam Bramston switched to a forward position and put together a string of attacking plays, while Jack Reynolds in midfield moved forward with vigour to further harry the St Joseph's defence.

A sequence of needless goals trickled in during the final ten minutes to overturn the game and an impressive Lions team were left perplexed at the final result.

EB Lions U10 - 0
AFC Shillington U10 - 1

MOM Mason won the ball with some relentless tackling and picked his way past a resolute Shillington defence, while an impressive Charlie swept down the wings time and again to deliver a host of shooting opportunities.

Tom and Chris formed an impressive attacking partnership, outfoxing their opponents with some accomplished one-two passing, culminating in some stunning attempts on goal.

The opening ten minutes belonged to the Lions as they kept the ball tightly wedged into the Shillington half, Adam and Aarin charging through a determined opposition.

Shillington picked up towards the end of the half, forcing defenders Ben and James into some tricky clearances, either by their trademark scything kicks or else via breathtaking runs from end to end.

Shillington increased the pressure during the second half, and Dan continued with the exquisite saves that have become his trademark. A cruel ball rolled in before the final whistle though, handing Lions a bitter defeat.

EB Lions U8 Reds - 2
Luton Borough Dragons U8 - 0

Eaton Bray Lions AFCWith two key players missing this week Lions knew they would have to work hard to get a result and did just that. Away from home and with a strong wind and the slope against Lions in the first half they expected to have to battle for every ball.

Approaching half time Lions got a well deserved goal scored by Karl.

With no substitutes Lions started the second half with the same formation. After ten minutes Dax got a great goal straight from a corner. After that it was all Lions and they could have scored many more but with a packed defence and some good saves from the Dragons' keeper the match ended 2-0.

MoM George had a good game as did Freddie, Charlie and Lee. In goal Harrison dealt with anything that came his way.

This was a good team effort that could have seen a much higher score line.

Luton Leagrave Orange U9 - 3
EB Lions U9 - 3

Two long punts downfield saw EB Lions lose two soft early goals.

An excellent fightback was rewarded when Jack Cook fired in from long range and Jonathan Evans netted following up a cross shot pushed out by the keeper. EB Lions keeper Edward Lee had to make a couple of good saves diving bravely at the feet of a Leagrave striker.

Another long range effort from Jack Cook sneaked in just under the bar to put EB Lions 3-2 up just before half time.

After early second half exchanges EB Lions failed to clear their lines and were pegged back to 3-3 with a speculative effort through a crowd of players. Both teams had good chances in the final 10 minutes especially from Man of the Match Archie Bunker whose rasping shot was well saved but ultimately neither side could press home the advantage. A draw was a fair result.

EB Lions Girls U1O - 2
Woburn Lions Girls U1O - 1

After a three-week break the Lions were raring to go. They were soon in control of the game with some excellent solo runs, intricate passing and tackling in mid-field by Mel, Megan and Georgia. The breakthrough came with GoM Megan scoring as a result of a solo run from the halfway line.

Lions showed a loss of concentration allowing Woburn to equalise. They continued to soak up the pressure with some brilliant saves from Amber and with Holly and Liberty, in defence, cutting out many chances and providing great back up to the midfield.

Up front Hannah and Steph kept the Woburn defence busy but the telling goal for Lions came from a great run by Mel resulting in a cross to Georgia who made it 2-1.

All the Lions girls played brilliantly and showed great awareness in their passing play and also team spirit in the way they tackled and provided support throughout the game.

EB Lions U12 Girls - 0
Sacred Heart U12 Girls - 2

Lions were playing the undefeated, top of the league team but the match was evenly balanced with Katie and Devon doing well in Lions' defence.

Darcy, who was really strong in midfield, played alongside Elsa (GoM) and Emily and Lions controlled the game. Up front Megan and Hattie both had chances to score and were unlucky not to. After fifteen minutes Sacred Heart got their first goal and ten minutes later, from a speculative shot, they scored again.

Lions made substitutions, started the second half strongly and continued to dominate right up to the final whistle. Although they hit the post a couple of times the ball would not go in. Beth and Shannon both helped to keep Lions' defence solid and in goal Nancy continued to play well. This was another great team effort and Lions continue to play good football and will only get better.

Eaton Bray Lions AFCPlaying against a strong and bitterly cold wind with the odd snow shower to contend with it was fifteen minutes before a great free kick from Dax put Lions into a well deserved lead.

Lions' goalie, Toby, coped well with everything that came his way.

Lions kept the pressure on and got a second through Charlie just before half time.

With only seven players available, Lions unfortunately lost George towards the end of the first half due to an asthma attack.

Starting the second half a player down, Lions put Freddie, Lee and Harrison as back three leaving Dax and Charlie to try and find a way through to score again.

Some great runs from the front two put AFC under pressure, and a deflection off an AFC defender after a shot from Harrison gave Lions a well deserved third goal.

EB Lions Reds U8 - 2
Bushmead Wanderers U8 - 0

Lions started with the slope and the wind in their favour and despite the vast majority of the possession and pressure coming from Lions it was still 0-0 at half time.

Lions made substitutions at half time knowing that they had to work even harder to get a result.

Even with the slope and wind against them Lions still controlled the game and it appeared to be only a matter of time before they would score.

Then towards the end of the second half Lions got the goal that they had worked so hard for when Dax Roe rounded the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net.

Lions kept the pressure on and a minute later Dax rounded the keeper again and got his second.

This was a strong team performance with a well deserved result, MOM was Freddie Mines.

EB Lions Reds U8 - 2
Crawley Green Tigers U8 - 1

In a well-balanced match in which both teams were giving their best it was the Lions who proved the stronger team.

From Toby in goal, who made some great saves, through to Freddy and Jack in defence Lions looked solid at the back.

George, Harrison and Lee controlled midfield well for Lions.

Up front Dax, Charlie and Karl worked hard and gave Crawley problems throughout the match.

After 17 minutes the pressure from Lions paid off when Harrison found some space and put them 1-0 up at half time.

Against the run of play Crawley scored the equalizer four minutes into the second half.

Lions kept the pressure on and after a great run and goal from Dax (who was MOM), they were back in front.

George played a real captains role and held everything together so that Lions finished 2-1 winners to complete a great weekend.

Lewsey U10 - 1
EB Lions U10 - 1

The opening half belonged to Lions as Adam and Dominic tested the Lewsey keeper time and again.

Impressive attacks by way of Sean and Aarin kept the league leaders on their toes, forcing them out of a familiar comfort zone.

The occasional onslaught broke through but it was only the most ferocious efforts that were able to get by the steadfast defensive work of James and Ben, who rarely limited themselves to one position.

Keeper Dan, who has found a new form to improve on some already impressive work, expertly fielded the on-target attempts of some powerful Lewsey strikers to pick up a well deserved MoM award.

The opening goal came from Dominic's neatly placed corner kick, which deflected from a Lewsey defender into the net.

Following the break, a revitalised Lewsey emerged desperate to claw back the goal deficit.

Lions brought out their defensive game and held off the home team with some consummate counter work which saw Mason midfield Chris made some impressive passing moves to find a well placed Tom, who retained the pressure throughout.

Lewsey finally equalised with minutes to spare in an enthralling encounter.

EB Lions U12 - 5

A bright sunny morning coupled with a very waterlogged pitch set the scene for the League Cup Quarter Final.

The whistle blew and within two minutes of play Lions had made several attempts on goal.

After a display of quick footwork by several players James Pearce landed Lions' first goal.

It wasn't long before Jake Higgs powered a long throw from Nathan Sears into the back of the net.

In the second half James Pearce made a great run up the pitch and outmanoeuvred the keeper to score again.

Crawley Green started to put pressure on but Luke Dunstan stood firm in Lions' defence.

Pearce was hungry for his hat trick and his patience was rewarded with another goal.

Crawley Green quickly responded with a superb display of passing to score their first goal.

Jake Higgs retaliated with a superb run up the field and a powerful shot straight into the net.

Declan Tomlinson was Lions' MOM.

Houghton Regis Youth U14 - 8
EB Lions U14 - 0

The lopsided score-line reflects the size of the squads: Lions fielded nine players whilst their opponents had 14 at their disposal.

Houghton Regis scored their first from a run up the right wing after just two minutes.

For a period Lions held the home team at bay with tenacious defensive play by O'Connell, Thorne and Lancefield.

Occasionally Coates or Marshall made a probing run forward, only to be overwhelmed by the home team defenders.

Meanwhile, Houghton Regis steadily increased their goal tally to reach 5 by half-time.

Coates donned the goalie shirt, allowing Cavendish to add his strength to Lions' midfield.

Lions' determination earned them two corners, one shot just wide and another saved.

Dear (MOM) was outstanding in Lions' defence and a clearance off the line by Moriarty immediately followed by a save from Coates even had the opposition supporters applauding. Unfortunately defeat was inevitable for the spirited but outnumbered Lions team.

Mixed reaction to overhaul of youth soccer

Youth FootballAn overhaul of youth football across the county has prompted a heated debate among fans.

A mixture of disgruntled parents and supportive coaches swamped Bedfordshire's Football Association (FA) with calls following a decision to ban competitive soccer for youngsters.

The county's football bosses have enforced English FA regulations banning knockout cup matches, league tables and the awarding of points in under-eights matches.

The regulations were not new, but until now had not been enforced. They affect competitions across the country.

All of Bedfordshire's under-eights football teams will still follow a fixture list and play matches, but will not get points for winning, ending the competitive element of the Chiltern Junior Sevens League and Filmergraphics League.

Peter Brown, Bedfordshire FA's chief executive, said: "We have had a lot of reaction, but we are only the messengers not the decision makers and this is a policy across the country, not just in Bedfordshire."

Visitors to our websites were mainly against the FA's decision, and 76 per cent of people who took part in our internet poll said the spirit of competition is one of the key lessons in life.

Drew Stanley, of Luton, said: "Has anyone thought to ask the kids what they want? My bet is that 99 per cent of them will want the competitiveness of leagues. Kids love being competitive."

However the FA have also gained some support from football fans. Bob Smith said: "I think it is a good idea. We spend too much time just trying to win and not enough time playing the beautiful game.

"Maybe this will stop parents bellowing from the touchline - a public embarrassment."

Connor Tough replied with a stunning shot to level the match and defenders Sam Bramston and Daniel Challis effectively closed down any further attacks before the break.

Blues settled into their rhythm in the second half, hogging possession throughout. Keeper 011ie Mulcahy traded with Daniel to get some on-pitch time, putting in some adept defensive work and working forwards to place an impressive shot that fell just short.

Jack Reynolds, Luke Jearrad and Robert Bunting slotted some neat passes in between the Whites defence to open up more opportunities, and Bradley Hicks dispossessed the occasional attacker to ensure the opposing goal tally remained at one. Ultimately MoM Connor scored again as did David Wood to compound a clear. victory.

It seemed as if it was going to be a repeat of last week where Lions totally controlled the game with all the pressure coming from the Lions, but the ball would just not go in. The bar, posts and a well positioned goalkeeper simply kept the Lions out.

But with only 2 minutes to go of the first half Charlie Giblin put Lions ahead and they went in 1-0 up at half time.

Lions started the second half strongly with a goal from Dax Roe and two from Karl Shrowder in the first nine minutes. With strong performances from George and Jack in midfield and Freddy, Lee and Harrison working well together there wasn't much for Lions' goalkeeper Toby to do.

In a match that they dominated from start to finish this was a good result for the Lions.

Lions notched up their first win of 2008 as they finally overpowered a game Oakley side in an enthralling encounter which the first of a brace of decisive goals.

Defenders Ben and James ran down every attack and countered with their usual scything clearances, while MoM Aarin took on all comers and made noteworthy inroads deep into Oakley territory.

The second half kicked off at the same frenetic pace and had onlookers gasping as shots winged the nets at each end. Mason and Charlie put together some accomplished passing moves that threatened the Oakley back line, while Adam and Chris worked hard to chase down every ball.

Finally, it was Sean's laser-guided corner into Dominic that resulted in the winning goal, although a seemingly never-ending half saw keeper Dan well tested forcing him into some truly textbook save-making.

Another great match and a super win, this one away from home, giving the Lions a run of four consecutive wins.

Lions started strongly with a goal after six minutes from Hattie and continued to control the match right up to half time and were unlucky not to have scored again. Lions used Shannon as reserve keeper after Nancy had to come off but the team pulled together and kept a clean sheet.

Six minutes into the second half Megan scored Lions' second. Again Lions' midfield of Darcy, Emily and Elsa were strong and in total control despite some unexpected decisions going against them. In defence Katie was in control with good support from Devon and Beth. The recent results are well deserved for a team that has worked hard and pulled together and never given up. It is a real achievement for their first season together.

Should U8s be forbidden competitive football?

Youth FootballA decision by the English FA to ban knockout cup matches, league tables and the awarding of points in U8 matches means that the SKF Chiltern Junior Sevens League's U8 divisions have effectively been handed a death sentence.

Beds FA chief executive Peter Brown says the league should not have been running tables for U8s or cup competitions this season, either.

But league secretary Andy Piggins, 45, branded the decision 'silly.'

Mr Piggins helped set up the league in 2001 after 11-a-side games for U10s were banned by the FA.

He has had one child play at the U8 level and believes competitive football does not do the children any harm.

He said: "We've been doing U8s for six or seven seasons. It started off as an U10 league because they were who the FA stopped playing and it's gradually grown."

Children from as young as six have been allowed to play competitive football in recent seasons, but the enforced changes mean that children must be aged eight and over if they are to take part next season.

EB Lions U8 Blues - 1

Eaton Bray Lions AFCA gently undulant pitch and unpredictable crosswinds kept both teams on their toes in an enthralling first half.

Possession was divided evenly in a competitive opening 20 minutes, with both teams creating chances. Lions' rugged defenders Sam Bramston, Jack Reynolds and Daniel Challis bravely closed down the St Martins attacking plays, and, along with 011ie Mulcahy's commanding saves, ensured the score remained 0-0.

In the second half Lions came out firing and Connor Tough managed to break through as Toby McGee drew the attention of the home defenders in front of goal. A sliver of an opening was enough for Connor to slot the ball deftly into the net. Matt Kennel) looked set to compound that lead but was denied by some effective defence work.

Not ready to concede defeat, St Martins landed an equaliser five minutes later, despite expert plays from Robert Bunting, Bradley Hicks and deserving MoM Luke Jearrad, none of whom let up for a moment.

Lions knew they were in for a tough match and raised their performances accordingly, but were unfortunately undone by a goal either side of half time.

The defensive duties displayed by Sarah Jane, Misha (GOM) and Holly were outstanding.

Megan between the sticks was forced to make some great saves. Mel & Liberty in the first half and Amber Wright and Steph in the second were all solid in midfield and gave the opposition little time to settle on the ball.

Lions felt that their luck would change mid-way through the first half when they were awarded a penalty for handball, but Georgia was denied by a lucky save from Crawley Green's goalie. Amber Walsh also came close on a number of occasions in the second half.

With the possession and chances that Lions had it must only be a matter of time before they turn their efforts into a much deserved win.

Another great team effort and another great result with two away wins back to back.

The Lions playing with the wind were putting the pressure on Potton and took th lead through Hattie after 11 minutes and i wasn't long before Darcy came close to scoring a second.

After 15 minutes the Lions were unlucky to concede a goal and despite Megan, Elsa and Emily pushing forward it was 1-1 at half time.

Even against the wind in the second hal Lions' defence of Katie, Beth, Devon and Shannon looked solid and Nancy in goal coped with everything that came her way. I was Lions' constant pressure and determination that caused Potton to score an own goal. With three Lions ready to pounce on any mistake the ball was alway going to end up in the Potters net.

The Lions supported each other well an, earned themselves another well deserved two points.

Flitwick Eagles U14 B - 6
EB Lions U14 - 0

Lions needed a win to hang on to second place in the division but things started badly when they conceded a soft goal afte only five minutes and Eagles scored another soon afterwards.

Coates made some promising attacking runs for Lions, feeding the ball through to Marshall, but the Eagles defence seemed impenetrable. Under pressure Lions conceded an own goal and Eagles scored fourth before half-time.

Lions played better in the second half, with great defensive play by MoM Thiel, Lancefield and Broughton keeping Eagles at bay. However, Lions struggled to get past Eagles back four and could not get their shots on target when they did. Eventually Lions were worn down by the relentless pressure from Eagles, who scored twice more in the last five minutes.

This was a disappointing result for Lions who obviously struggled against a disciplined and physically stronger side.

Nonetheless three sublime goals went in ahead of the break and Lions had some work to do in the second half. Covering midfield, Connor Tough and Luke Jearrad were effective in neutralising a string of pacey attacks, and Brache were made to fight for every scoring opportunity.

A scorching run along the right wing from David finally paid off, bringing Lions onto the scoreboard, but the visitors matched their first half tally to secure another comprehensive win, and a scoreline which would have been still more lopsided were it not for deserving MoM 011ie Mulcahy, whose diving saves far outshone the Brache goals.

With Lions captain George phoning in sick just before the match and Dax up most of the night being sick it was no surprise that Lions could not get into their normal way of playing.

Despite the efforts of Jack and Charlie, who was MoM, Lions could not push forward often enough to get the attempts on goal that they normally have. Freddie had another good game as sweeper and in goal Toby did well and made some good saves.

With Harri, Lee and Karl all being asked to play in a different role it just did not work out the way they wanted. Lions kept trying to fight back but it was only in the last minute that Dax scored a goal. At least we know why it didn't work out as expected.

Lions continued to dominate with Megan up front coming close on several occasions. Holly (GOM) and Sarah Jane had strong displays in defence and both made driving runs to maintain a presence in the oppositions half.

The second half started brightly for EB Lions, with Amber Walsh making some probing runs on goal supported by Steph. Yet, despite all the pressure and possession the Lions failed to capitalise on their narrow lead.

Sacred Heart Cheetahs made a rare break and scored a scrambled goal luckily beating Amber Wright. It ended 1-1 and EB Lions Girls must reflect on how they only drew this game with the countless missed opportunities they had to comfortably win.

EB Lions Girls U12 - 5
Barnfield Colts Girls U12 - 2

We knew it would happen, if you play with the passion and commitment that the Lions have shown all season the results would start to come, and some. In a match that Lions totally dominated they could have scored twice as many.

With Darcy and Hattie up front having plenty of shots on target it was Megan, who was GoM, playing from mid-field who scored all the goals, Barton had no answer to the strong runs that Megan kept making and caused them problems all match.

With three players away the rest of the team had to adjust and Elsa covered well in mid field with Emily, Abbie and Shannon strong in defence. In goal Nancy had another good game and was unlucky to concede two goals.

With this well deserved win the Lions can look forward to a strong finish to the season. Well done.

EB Lions U14 - 3
Shefford Saints U14 - 2

Lions made the most of an early chance when Audouard chased in a long ball, which bounced over the goalie, and headed it into the net.

Lions continued to pile on the pressure, with several promising attacks being thwarted by the skilful Saints' goalie, and had a goal disallowed for offside. Broughton and Storey (MOM) worked well for Lions in defence. Shefford picked up their pace towards half-time and their efforts paid off when defensive errors allowed them through to equalise. Lions were awarded a controversial penalty early in the second half, but the shot hit the crossbar. A great cross from Moriarty was neatly collected by Marshall to score Lions' second. Their third soon followed when Moriarty struck a low, hard free-kick from just wide of the box.

Shefford made a comeback in the final minutes, managing to reduce Lions' lead, but the equaliser eluded them.

A string of fine saves from 011ie Mulcahy cut off any further efforts at goal for the remainder of the half, freeing an adept Lions attack force to go on the offensive. David Wood and Connor Tough both saw shots skim the posts, while Matt Kennel) sliced a ball into the side net.

Midfielder Jack Reynolds doggedly stuck to Dragons forwards as they upped the pressure, and Lions continued to press, making some potent attacks.

Luke Jearrad, in his debut appearance, skipped past the Dragons defence to leave them ball watching.

Ultimately though, even MoM Daniel's steadfast defence and 011ie's acrobatic saves could not prevent two more Dragon goals in the last quarter.

Cranfield Colts U12 Girls - 0 EB Lions U12 Girls - 0

This was always going to be a test of Lions' resolve and self belief, playing the top of the league away from home.

Lions passed that test with style and flair, in a game that they controlled from the first kick to the last.

Lions dominated the match and deserved to come away with both points. Nancy, in goal, is the only goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against Cranfield all season. Lions' defense of Katie, Abbie and Shannon were solid. Darcy, Emily and Elsa controlled midfield, chasing every ball and didn't allow Cranfield to settle. The scoreline belied a close and competitive match, which saw the home side up tempo after the break to establish a real threat to the talented visitors.

Positioning was excellent, not least from MoM Jack Reynolds who was finding space in anticipation of the next attack.

Daniel Challis played his usual effective style, powering the ball from one end of the pitch to the other, while Connor Tough worked hard to feed the ball forwards and Toby McGee delivered a handful of impressive shots on goal.

Keeper 011ie Mulcahy made some accomplished saves, snatching the ball from the air time and again during a torrid first half which saw four goals go against Lions.

Freddie was in charge at the back and in goal Toby dealt with anything that came his way.

Lions brought on Karl at half time and continued to push forward.

Six minutes into the second half, after a corner, George got Lions' second.

An on form St Martins keeper was all that kept the score line at 2-0 until five minutes from the end when Dax got two more.

The same player scored a similar goal to put Flamstead ahead.

He almost added a third, this time his shot was cleared off the line by Jakob Knappitt.

The Lions were the stronger team in the second half.

Scotty scored the best goal of the match to equalise, a superb shot from the edge of the box into the top corner.

A period of Lions pressure resulted in MoM Scotty's third with another great strike.

However the Lions could not hang on and with a few minutes remaining Flamstead's striker scored from close range for the second hat-trick of a great match.

Lions lost momentum after the break and Stopsley went on the attack but Taylor and Lancefield were solid in Lions' defence.

Lions scored three more; Thiel knocked in another of Moriarty's corners, Scott-Lewis scored from a neat series of passes culminating in a superb cross by O'Connell and Moriarty (MOM) finally found the back of the net.

Defenders Sam Bramston, Daniel Challis, and MoM Connor Tough, who battled the length and breadth of the pitch to defeat wave after wave of attack, ensured their opposition were frustrated at every turn.

Just as a 3-1 victory looked possible, Memorial squeezed through to score twice in a matter of minutes, and Lions had a fight on their hands.

The second half was much more exciting.

Lions were caught out by a first minute goal from Saints, the shot coming from wide on the right wing.

Saints quickly repeated the move to score again and Lions countered with renewed energy.

Dear moved up to midfield for Lions and was soon linking up with Audouard to feed balls through to the forwards.

Auduoard (well deserved MOM) took the ball through and lobbed the keeper to score.

Meg kept taking the game to the opposition whilst Emily and Elsa covered well making good passes.

In defence, Katy played a faultless game as sweeper, Beth and Devon looked solid and Nancy in goal coped with everything that came her way.

Lions brought on Abbie and Shannon in defense in the second half and continued to keep control of the game but against the run of play a scrappy goal from a corner gave Sacred Heart the lead.

Eaton Bray Lions AFCWhat a match!

With a much improved Dragons team as opposition it took Lions a while to settle down but after the first two goals from Harry and Charlie things were looking good.

A more compact Lions' midfield meant that George and Jack had more of the ball and playing wingers Harry and Charlie less wide gave Lions the vast majority of the first half possession with a lot more opportunities to score.

Freddie adjusted to his role as sweeper well and was MoM.

In goal, Toby always looked a safe pair of hands dealing with anything that came his way.

Lions demonstrated a handful of their sublime one-twos which foxed their accomplished opponents, and for most of the opening half Charlie and Chris, abetted by robust defenders James, Ben and Mason, ran rings around Sundon Park, delivering endless neat passes to the able feet of forwards Adam and Dominic.

A rejuvenated Sundon Park emerged from the half time break with vehemence.

Katie and Devon, who was GoM, defended Lions' goal well and pushed up to help find a way through.

Nancy looked confident in goal and made some great saves.

The match continued at the same fast pace as the first half. After seven minutes Potten scored so Lions made changes to bring Darcy, Devon and Emily back on.

Lions were still fighting for every ball and three minutes before time Hattie scored a well deserved equalizer.

Teamwork, effort and determination enabled Lions to get a great result.

EB Lions U8 Whites - 2
EB Lions U8 Blues - 5

Eaton Bray Lions AFCThe Blues launched into play, spurred on by fervent supporters.

Mid-fielders Connor Tough and Jack Reynolds instinctively stuck to the ball and drove it forwards, and with efforts from Toby McGee and Matt Kennell the ball danced around the box.

It was only minutes before Matt scored the first of what would transpire to be an accomplished hat trick!

The Whites, the slope in their favour, overturned the score to go 2 -1 up before the break.

With the second half under way, defenders Daniel Challis, Sam Bramston and Bradley Hicks closed ranks and, together with sterling saves from Ollie Mulcahy, ensured the Whites had scored their last.

The scare of the score-line unleashed the boys' fighting spirit and with Robert Bunting feeding the ball through, Connor sliced a shot behind the keeper.

A blistering goal courtesy of David Wood and the feisty completion of Matt's hat trick combined to bring victory to the Blues and their jubilant fans.

EB Lions U14 - 0
AFC Kempston U14 B - 2

In this League Cup tie Lions faced a team two divisions above them.

Lions played the first half uphill and against the wind and Kempston made repeated attempts to take advantage of the conditions only to be rebuffed by determined defensive play by Thiel, Dear (MOM), Broughton, Taylor and Lancefield. Kempston were caught out by a few attacking runs from Lions, with a shot from Crace being saved and both Coates and Crace being brought down by defenders.

One of the resulting free-kicks by Moriarty was on target but saved.

Early in the second half Crace shot over the goalie's head but the ball was plucked from the air in an impressive display of agility.

Kempston retaliated immediately, scoring with a shot from wide on the right wing.

Lions looked likely to level the score but Kempston's goalie always denied them. Pushing players forward in search of the equaliser left Lions open to the quick break and they conceded another goal seconds before the whistle, but it was a superb team performance.

EB Lions U8 Blues - 2
EB Lions U8 Whites - 0

Eaton Bray Lions AFCThe agile U8 Blues went two for two with an impressive win over their village counterparts in an anticipated derby match.

The Whites fought from the outset but were out gunned as the Blues hogged possession for a chunk of the game.

Several searing shots sliced just offtarget or else were absorbed by accomplished keeping.

An impressive header from Toby McGee brushed the post, while David Wood and Robert Bunting made imposing progress.

Any Blues player could have scored, with shots driven forward by Daniel Challis and Sam Bramston.

Ultimately Connor Tough placed a neat ball between the keeper's feet before the break, a lead consolidated in the second by Matt Kennell, powering in a decisive ball after ten minutes.

Guarding the Blues' net, Ollie Mulcahy made short work of occasional incoming shots, but a challenging task was ameliorated by outstanding defensive work courtesy of Jack Reynolds and Bradley Hicks.

EB Lions U8 Reds - 0
Crawley Green Tigers U8 - 2

This was the league cup semi-final and Lions did nothing wrong but not enough right.

Every time there was a loose ball or two opposing players arrived at the same time it seemed that Lions just couldn't get that final touch or even when they did they couldn't use it to their advantage. Lions were playing a team they had beaten 7-1 a few weeks ago and yet from the start it was hard going.

Lions seemed to be outnumbered (they only had seven)- maybe after the previous meeting, Tigers were more determined to get revenge than Lions were to confirm their superiority.

Lions will learn from this and become a stronger and better team.

Next week, they play the same team on the same pitch in the league so watch this space.

EB Lions U10 - 1
Brache Sparta U10 - 3

Lions were forced to swallow a bitter defeat at the hands of an erratic Brache Sparta side.

There were early indications that this would be a sapping match, with some blistering turns of speed coming from their effective right winger.

Nonetheless, the pacey hitman's attacks were well countered by defenders Ben, James and Mason, while keeper Dan scooped up any tricky balls that penetrated the rear guard.

Ultimately the shots would start landing, but it was testament to the Lion's iron-clad resolve that they retained a degree of celerity which would have undone many a foe.

Sean, Tom and Chris were as ever using the length and breadth of the pitch, along with Charlie who demonstrated adept on-the-ball turns to frustrate the Brache defenders, but efforts would ultimately spearhead in a deft pass from Mason, angled into the net by deserving MoM Adam, to at least bring determined Lions team onto the scoreboard.

EB Lions U11 - 3
Sundon Park Rangers U11 - 2

The Lions progressed to Round 3 of the Cup.

Lions took the lead early on, Scotty Mercer floating over a corner for Ben Flitton to volley into the goal.

Thomas Lancefield made a great goal line clearance from a Sundon corner.

However, Sundon equalised scoring from close range following a free kick.

The Lions regained the lead, their second also coming from a corner.

Jamie Holt crossed, Ben headed it on and Matt Bramston blasted the ball into the net.

The Lions had the better of the second half but it took until the 23rd minute of the half to score the decisive goal.

Matt Glover ran the ball to the goal line before cutting it back to Scotty who fired the ball into the net.

Sundon scored a second in the final minute.

MoM for the second week running went to Jakob Knappitt who was awesome once again.

EB Lions U12 - 3
Caddington U12 - 2

In one of the most stunning and exciting games, Eaton Bray Lions (2nd in Division 2) faced Caddington (2nd in Divisionl) in the 4th round of the Beds U12 League Cup.

Lions powered their way to a 3-2 victory with a breathtaking hat trick from James Pearce (who scored his 200th Club career goal!).

Captain Nathan Sears urged his team on and created some wonderful play from midfield to support the front two, Declan Tomlinson and Luke Dunstan controlled the defensive middle whilst Jack Bramston in goal made several stunning saves to deny Caddington.

Haydn Thomas and Tom Nevitt were superb left and right backs who both attacked the flanks in a pulsating win to leave E B Lions in the last 16 of the Cup.

EB Lions U12 Girls - 0
Sandy Colts U12 Girls - 2

Lions started strongly with good attempts on goal from Darcy and Hattie (GoM) giving them complete control of the game until against the run of play they conceded a goal.

This didn't change Lions' approach to the game and Megan, Devon and Elsa kept control of midfield giving chances to get back on level terms.

Lions' defence was solid with Katie, Beth and Abbey coping well with anything that came their way. In goal Nancy produced a couple of fine saves.

Ten minutes into the second half, Sandy scored again.

Lions continued to push forward but as the minutes ticked away they still couldn't get the goals they deserved.

Once again Lions didn't get the result that such a committed and dedicated team effort deserved but with a team spirit as strong as this and the talent that this team has there will be good results to come.

Eaton Bray U10 girls - 0

Eaton Bray Lions AFCIt took United about ten minutes to score through Zoe Molloy after some good play from Amy Gibbons and Amelia Enright who found her at the near post to score.

Charlie (safehands) Hedges played well in goal with little to do. The defence of Georgia Carey and GoM Sarah Miller, stood firm to sopy any attacks. Maive Kenny played well in midfield.

The second half saw Eaton Bray come out the stronger team, but United earned a penalty that Zoe converted in to the bottom left hand corner. Charlotte Mulford played well when she came on, as did Nimah Ryan.

EB Lions U8 Blues - 1
St Martins Orange U8 - 1

Eaton Bray Lions AFCLions grabbed a second half equaliser to retain fourth place in the league table.

A dominant offence, made up of Matt Kennell and David Wood, supported by Connor Tough and MoM Jack Reynolds, hogged possession for most of the match. Still St. Martins found a chink in the Lions' shield-like defence, and it was enough to open the scoring ten minutes in.

Following the goal against them, defenders Sam Bramston and Bradley Hicks sealed the back line, effectively closing down the occasional St Martins forward drives.

After the interval keeper Ollie Mulcahy was sent forwards to harry the opposition's defence, his usual role adopted by Toby McGee, who was forced to make two impressive saves. Some crisp passing and intelligent dispersal opened up a string of striking opportunities for the Lions, as well as a wealth of corners, but the equaliser would finally come after a breakaway run by star scorer Matt Kennell.

EB Lions U14 - 2
Bramingham U14 - 5

Lions hadn't played competitively for three weeks and it showed. They gave away an easy goal from a free-kick within the first minute.

Good defensive play by Thiel and great tackling by Taylor kept Bramingham's persistent attack at bay for some time but Lions eventually conceded a second goal. The Bramingham goalie stopped a neat back-heel by Crace and a shot from Storey.

Lions improved in the second half with O'Connell making a couple of menacing attacks. A superb free-kick by Lions' Moriarty set up Crace to score with a header. Bramingham retaliated with a third goal but then conceded a free-kick which Moriarty curled neatly over the wall and into the net. Just when it looked possible for Lions to level the score, Bramingham dashed their hopes by scoring twice more from quick breaks.

Lions MOM was Ross Taylor for a series of fearless challenges.

EB Lions U8 Blues - 0
Luton Borough Dragons Whites U8 - 5

Eaton Bray Lions AFCUnder testing conditions Lions bravely took on league top dogs Luton Borough Dragons.

An encouraging start had David Woods breaking away with Matt Kennell to threaten the visiting keeper and then, minutes later, a second run opened up as mid-fielders Robert Bunting and Connor Tough fed the ball through to the forwards again, setting up an impressive strike.

The weather showed no signs of turning, but the match was about to and following a brace of stunning saves from Ollie Mulcahy, the first ball slipped in. Defenders Daniel Challis, Jack Reynolds and MoM Bradley Hicks worked hard to keep the oppressive opposition at bay, successfully wresting the ball on more than one occasion but, following the half time break, three goals went against the Lions in quick succession.

Like so many matches, the scoreline ought to have been a lot closer, but the ultimate tally of 0-5 was nothing shameful: the Dragons are undefeated to date.

EB Lions Girls U12 - 0
Barton Rovers Girls U12 - 0

With the wind blowing strongly, icy cold rain and the playing surface slippery, this was always going to be one of those games that could be decided by a simple mistake by either team.

Lions' goalie Shannon had to contend with either the ball skidding fast as it approached her goal or almost stopping dead as it hit the mud just in front of goal.

Defenders Katie, Beth and Devon fended off a determined Barton attack, which they managed to do all match.

In midfield Lions had Megan, Emily and Elsa working against the wind, rain and mud to try and set up Darcy and Hattie up front to score the goal that they so deserved but conditions did not give the attack the breaks.

Even with their strikers coming back to try and create a goal scoring chance it was not to be for Lions and the match ended goalless.

St Joseph's U8 - 3
EB Lions U8 Blues - 0

Eaton Bray Lions AFCGoing into Saturday's clash with secondplace St Joseph's, Lions were anticipating a stern test. What transpired was a virtuoso display of football that culminated in the home team's narrowest win this season.

All three goals went in prior to the break, but as the second half got under way defenders Sam Bramston, Bradley Hicks and Daniel Challis drew together and cut off further attacks. As usual an on-form Ollie Mulcahy fielded the odd ball that squeezed through the Lions back line, pulling off half a dozen accomplished saves throughout the match.

Forwards David Wood and Toby McGee, assisted by mid-fielders Robert Bunting and Matt Kennell, harried the St Joseph's defence, creating a string of impressive chances. Despite adopting an accomplished passing strategy, dispersing strategically off the ball, they were unable to capitalise on the numerous openings they had established. Nevertheless, visiting fans were wowed by some of the best football Lions have played to date.

Crawley Green Lions U8 - 4
EB Lions U8 - 2

EB went one down after 4 minutes and had to push forward to get back on level terms in a very busy game, where both sides attacked strongly and defended well.

Freddie and George in defense kept the back safe with Jack, Harrison and Charlie keeping the Crawley midfield under control. With half time approaching fast an acute angled shot by Dax gave EB the goal they needed to end the half 1-1.

In the second half Crawley took the lead again but it only took EB three minutes to get level again after a free kick from Dax was pushed away by the goalkeeper and George put it in the back of their net.

EB MOM, goalkeeper Toby, made some great saves. Then Crawley scored twice more and although EB kept pushing forward and nearly scored twice more they ran out of time.

EB Lions U10 - 3
Oakley Rangers U10 - 0

Adopting his usual style, Dominic ran down every ball while Sean and Chris dispersed into receiving positions. The goals were spectacular, diverse examples each of them, demonstrating the Lions' ability to score from almost anywhere.

Opening the account, Adam fielded a neat cross, guiding it decisively into the net. Following the break, Sean took receipt of a mid-air lob from Dominic, delivering a shot into the top corner. Finally Dominic had his own chance to complete, firing at range to compound the victory.

Midfielders Charlie and Mason put their usual stamp on the game, turning and weaving with the ball past a bewildered Rangers defence, while defenders Ben, James and MoM Aarin, pulled off meteoric shots that would have sent most adult players running for cover.

Keeper Dan once again showed his style, putting in a sequence of stunning saves to retain the zero end of the scoreline.

EB Lions Girls U10 - 3
Houghton Athletic Girls U10 - 0

After a great victory and team performance last week EB Lions were raring to go. They started off the blocks quickly and were soon imposing themselves in the oppositions half.

The first goal to EB Lions was created by some great passing play between Megan and Mel resulting in the goal being scored by Hannah. GoM Hannah got her second quickly after courtesy of a throw in. A great solo effort by Liberty running down the left wing resulted in the third goal. EB Lions continued to work hard with impressive defence duties by Misha, Sarah Jane and Holly.

The second half started brightly for EB Lions with Georgia and Steph battling hard for the ball in the middle of the pitch. The pressure play then swung in favour of Houghton Athletic but they were unable to get on the score sheet due to some great saves by Amber Wright.

EB Lions U11 - 1
Barton Rovers Youth B U11 - 1

Lions' winning run came to an end but this result was every bit as satisfying as those wins. The boys showed huge determination and great team spirit to battle back for a draw after being behind at half time.

A physically strong Barton team took the lead halfway through the first half. Lions' keeper Harry Rogers was excellent again making some great saves and the central defensive pairing of Ivan Brodrick and Jakob Knappitt were solid throughout the game.

The Lions were the better side in the second period with Ben Flitton a constant threat. Matt Bramston and Scotty Mercer both went close to scoring. Lions continued to attack and finally Matt's tenacious play won the ball allowing him to score the equaliser. MoM Ivan used his pace and some great tackling to thwart numerous Barton attacks.

It was a gutsy second half performance from the boys in difficult conditions.

EB Lions Girls U10 - 4
Woburn Lions Girls U10 - 1

Eaton Bray Lions AFCEB kicked off and immediately took the initiative pushing into the opposition's half.

It was soon 1 nil to EB courtesy of a pass by Hannah to Melissa who went on a blistering run down the wing before cutting inside and scoring from the edge of the box.

Numerous attacks continued on the Woburn goal ending in a cross being headed in by Amber Wright. Strong team play continued by Sarah Jane, Misha and GoM Holly ensuring they maintained their lead. By half time it was three nil thanks to a great goal by Liberty.

The second half continued as the first with Georgia hitting the side netting before Amber Walsh scored. Woburn then started to fight back but were denied by some great saves from Megan. They finally scored towards the end of the match but this did not take the shine off a great team performance by the EB Lions.

Caddington Youth U11 - 2
EB Lions U11 - 4

Lions continued their winning run in this league cup round one encounter. However it was a lacklustre first half display.

Caddington took the lead and MoM Lions keeper Harry Rogers kept his team in the game with some sharp saves. Late in the half James Tate reacted quickly from a corner to fire in an equaliser. After the break the Lions found their form. Matt Glover scored a great solo goal and Scotty Mercer turned in a free kick to make it 3-1.

Caddington pulled one back before Scotty was brought down in the area and scored his second from the penalty spot. For the final quarter of the match Harry and defender Jakob Knappitt were both magnificent in ensuring the Lions did not concede another goal.

This was an excellent victory over higher division opposition and made it eight wins in a row for the Lions.

EB Lions U12 - 5
Westoning Recreation U12 - 2

In round two of the league cup EB Lions started with some electric play and a stunning four pass move, with great link play from Jake Higgs, led to James Pearce scoring a superb opener. However Westoning roared back and scored two good goals to finish the half on top. They could have been further ahead were it not for a brilliant Jack Bramston in Lions' goal.

The second half from Lions was much better and they equalised when Pearce slotted home. Jake Higgs struck a 25 yard free kick into the top corner and the Lions were rampant - top scorer Will Sanders finished neatly, before Nathan Sears dribbled through five players to complete a fantastic solo effort.

EB Lions U12 Girls - 0
Cranfield Colts U12 Girls - 4

An early goal against Lions wasn't deserved and they responded with some strong attacking play from Darcy and Hattie.

In midfield Megan and GoM Emily - were pushing forward for Lions looking for the equaliser that they deserved. Katie and Beth were strong in defence with some good saves from Shannon in goaI.

Lions made their substitutions of Devon, Elsa, Nancy and Abi during the first half and were unlucky to concede another goal before half time.

In the second half Lions continued trying to find a way through the Cranfield defence. It was bitterly cold with a strong wind but Lions kept going, showing support for each other all over the pitch. In the end Cranfield scored two more goals which did not reflect the chances that Lions had.

It is only a matter of time before the results start to show the team spirit and quality of play that Lions deserve.

Eaton Bray Lions AFC

Eaton Bray Lions AFCE. B. Lions AFC is a children's football club for the boys and girls living in and around the villages of Edlesborough, Eaton Bray, Dagnall and Northall.

We have ten teams this season, ranging from our Under 14's down to our newest U7's including two girls teams in the Under 10's and the Under 12's League.

This is providing competitive sport by qualified coaches to over 130 children! We are working hard to develop our players and teams into a successful and thriving Club and have FA qualified coaches running every team. Please look us up on our website which is being revamped as we speak - www.eblions.co.uk

Charter Standard Development Status

We are delighted to announce that EB Lions AFC, after much work by our coaches and committee, has won the coveted Charter Standard Development status via Beds FA. There are only 8 Charter Standard Development Youth Football Clubs in Bedfordshire.

This scheme is a core component of the FA Football Development programme. The scheme established minimum standards for football development and acts as a quality assurance mechanism recognising well run schools and clubs. As a benchmark for quality it will improve the playing experience for all.

The Charter Standard Scheme is a best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for all clubs outside the Football League and Premier League. Youth Football Clubs are the heartbeat of football in this country.

That is why The FA Charter Standard club programme, which raises standards and recognises and rewards quality, is so important.

The FA Charter Standard Programme provides recognition that clubs are well run and sustainable, with child protection and safety paramount. It also recognises a club's commitment to coaching, player and coach development, and the raising of standards of behaviour in the game - all of which are big priorities for the Club and the FA.

Grant for new goalposts

With huge and much appreciated support from Eaton Bray Parish Council we have been able to purchase new steel 11-a-side goals at Holmans Field, Eaton Bray to continue the investment in high quality equipment and facilities. This was made possible by a grant from the Football Foundation and a significant contribution from the Parish Council.

Since 1991 nine young footballers have been killed in the UK by unsafe goals and many more have been seriously injured by posts and crossbars that fail to meet basic safety standards. The Football Foundation is funded by the Premier League, The FA, Sport England and the Government (visit www.footballfoundation.org.uk for more information).

The club is grateful for their assistance in helping to ensure the safety of our young players.

New Under 7's Team

Our 2008-9 season Under 7's have already held their first training session which was fantastic and there are clearly some able and skilful players. The interest, quality and skill levels were much higher than we expected and 3 or 4 players in particular caught the eye - indeed all the trainees looked very good. If we are able to attract 3 or 4 more school year 1 players we will be able to form two teams, which is our aim. This will enable all players to play regular football and ensure we have sufficient experience when 11-a-side football starts at Under 11.

Year 1 pupils at Dagnall, Edlesborough, Eaton Bray and Studham schools have already received invitation letters to join us at EB Lions. If your child did not attend the first training session and is interested in playing for the club please contact Liz Coates (see below). Please note to be considered, players need to be no older than 6 years old on 31st August 2008 i.e. all year 1 children are eligible.

Adrian Bush and Tim Sanders will run the second informal training session on Saturday 1st December at 9.30am on Edlesborough Green for one hour.

Other Club News

There are a number of other exciting announcements to make:-

  • We have appointed a fitness coach, Nick Bramston, who has gained an expanded version of the FA Level 1 coaching badge. He will work with all our 10 teams to improve fitness and agility at all levels.
  • We have appointed a Head Coach, Lewis Taylor, to help new coaches to the Club learn the ropes and the game.
  • We have established a 5 year plan that includes increasing the number of teams to 18 over 5 years and seeking a suitable site for an all weather floodlit training pitch.
  • We hope to secure substantial Football Foundation and Sport England funding for this once we have identified a suitable location - please help us with this if you can!
  • We are expanding our number of 7-a-side and 11-a-side pitches to 8 next season.
Thank you to Dagnall Village Hall Committee for allowing the Club the use of Dagnall pitch this season and hopefully for many years to come.

EB Lions U8 Blues - 2
Memorial Park U8 - 2

Eaton Bray Lions AFCLeaving last week's game firmly behind, Lions looked set to dismantle their opposition from the whistle. Menacing shots from Matt Kennell and Robert Bunting tested the Memorial Park keeper, until a burst of attacking play from Connor Tough, skipping past defenders, evading the tackle, culminated in the opening goal.

Lions' back line was held strong by determined trio Bradley Hicks, Sam Bramston and Jack Reynolds, compounded by the usual accomplished efforts of keeper Ollie Mulcahy. While constrained by the Lions' robust defence and Daniel Challis's dominating presence in midfield, an undeterred Memorial Park managed to equalise following a penalty after the break.

A game which looked to be going the Lions' way turned as Memorial Park scored again with five minutes left. Home fans endured a torrid time as Lions rallied and a gifted run by Matt found MoM Toby McGee, who levelled the match with a deftly placed shot in the remaining seconds.

Luton Borough Dragons U8 Blues - 1
EB Lions US Reds - 6

Lions started the game looking sharp and after five minutes Harrison got them off to a great start with a goal, followed by another 5 minutes later.

Lions kept pushing forward and five minutes later Dax got their third. The Dragons scored and then Dax got his second just before half time to end the half 4-1 up.

Lions made their substitutions during the second half and kept pushing forward with all the pressure coming from the Lions; 15 minutes into the second half Dax got his third to complete his hat trick. Then in the last minute George scored to complete a 61 victory.

Jack Nevitt won MoM for a very good all round performance.

This week's goal scorers were Dax Roe 3, Harrison Ambrose 2 George Oliver 1.

EB Lions U11 - 5
Sundon Park Rangers U11 - 1

Lions got off to a great start, taking the lead after two minutes. MoM Matt Glover played a perfect pass through to Scotty Mercer who slipped the ball past the keeper.

Two minutes later the Lions doubled their lead when William Poole was brought down in the area following a mazy run. William blasted in the penalty himself.

Halfway through the first half Matt G scored the Lions' third firing in following a corner.

Early in the second half Sundon pulled a goal back but the Lions restored their three goal lead a minute later. James Tate lifted the ball over the defence and Matt Bramston scored for the seventh straight game. With a couple of minutes remaining Matt B scored his second rising to head in William's free kick.

Every player played their part in a great team performance to make it seven wins in a row.

Woburn Lions U12 - 2
EB Lions U12 - 5

On a bitterly cold morning the two Lions met in the County Cup. First strike went to EB with a superb solo goal from Will Sanders for his 16th of the season.

Woburn grabbed an equaliser just before half time.

Just after the break Woburn won a penalty only for EB's Jack Bramston to make a stunning save. EB Lions increased the pressure and super striker James Pearce scored his 192nd club career goal before winger Jake Higgs scored two quick goals.

Woburn pulled one back before man of the match Nathan Sears rounded off a great team performance with a 20 yard strike.

EB Lions U14 - 4
Brickhill Wanderers U14 - 1

Wanderers put an early shot wide which galvanised Lions into action. A long throw from Moriarty landed at the feet of ScottLewis who struck it into the net.

Lions scored a second from a corner when an inadequate clearance by Wanderers was pounced upon by Thiel. Crace made several promising attacks for Lions without success and towards the end of the first half Wanderers rallied and pulled a goal back.

In the second half Crace's persistence paid off when Wanderers' goalie found his shot just too high to stop. Wanderers never eased up on the pressure and forced Lions' goalie, Cavendish, to make some brave dives.

Finally Dear scored Lions' fourth with an impressive first touch curling shot which sailed over everybody into the top corner. This was a wonderful team performance by Lions against hard-working opponents. Lions' man of the match was defender Andy Broughton.

Brache Sparta U8 - 10
EB Lions U8 Blue - 1

Eaton Bray Lions AFCAn ill-deserved scoreline if ever there was one! A shortage of players forced Lions to play out of their usual positions, but a gritty team emerged to take on a formidable side.

In the opening minutes keeper Ollie Mulcahy was kept busy as Sparta poured the ball forward at every opportunity.

Five goals landed before Lions decided they were not content to sit back and absorb the pressure.

A battling display followed, defenders Jack Reynolds, Daniel Challis and Sam Bramston fighting to counter the opposition's driving play. It wasn't all one way traffic, some impressive runs courtesy of midfielders Connor Tough and Robert Bunting testing the opposition.

Lions looked set to make a comeback in the second half as Toby McGee rounded the Sparta defence, finding David Wood who completed, at last bringing the Lions onto the scoreboard.

The tide turned, Lions successfully defending their goal up until the last five minutes.

Crawley Green Tigers - 1
EB Lions U8 Reds - 7

Away against second place in the league, Lions needed to get a good result. Playing against a fairly strong wind, it was hard to get going and then Crawley Green scored.

From the centre Lions tried a shot straight at goal and it nearly worked, it took the keeper by surprise and he only just held on to it. With five minutes to go, Karl scored the well deserved equaliser.

With only one substitution to make at half time it meant that Lions started strongly and after five minutes Hard put Lions in the lead. Then soon after, with four goals in nine minutes, from Dax who was also MoM, Lions were in a great position and playing a good passing game.

The defence stayed solid and another goal from Hard in the last minute secured Lions' huge win.

This week's goalscorers were Dax Roe 4, Harri Ambrose 2, Karl Shrowder 1.

Barton Rovers Gunners U10 - 1
EB Lions U10 - 1

Lions again proved it within their capabilities to ameliorate a humble league ranking, turning in one of their most potent displays yet against the nimble Gunners.

Forced to endure two early corners, defenders James and Ben scrabbled to clear the first before a second looped in, on-target but expertly palmed over the crossbar by outstanding keeper Dan.

Following the break, attackers Dominic, Sean and Adam, supported by Tom and Charlie, made the pitch their own, slotting neat passes between the Barton defence and opening up tantalising shooting opportunities. With regularity the ball was cleared by James and MoM Ben, Aarin making relentless progress from end to end, ultimately spearing a shot inches above the bar.

It would be ten minutes in though before Chris set up Dominic to put the Lions ahead.

Although Barton would grab one back before full time the match would end as Lions' most accomplished performance this season.

Luton Leagrave U11 - 2
EB Lions U11 - 3

Lions made it six wins in a row, but this was a tough match in a very strong wind. The Lions deserved to take the lead halfway through the first half.

MoM Ben Flitton took a quick throw and the ball was worked across to an unmarked Matt Bramston who fired home.

Harry Rogers made a fantastic save when a Luton striker was through on goal, but Luton equalised later in the half.

At the start of the second half the Lions took the lead again when top scorer Matt scored his second of the match from a corner. Luton hit back immediately to level again.

The Lions piled on the pressure for the next 25 minutes and finally scored the winner when Scotty Mercer volleyed in another perfect corner from William Poole. The boys showed great determination to keep their winning run going.

Aylesbury Athletic U12 - 4
EB Lions U12 - 2

The start of the game saw a great team effort from Jake, Nathan and Will that resulted in a superb first goal for EB.

Aylesbury capitalised on a free kick and soon scored the equaliser. Both teams continued to display some great passing and defensive play.

Just before half time, Aylesbury gained control of the ball and made a superb run up the field and powered the ball into the back of the net.

The second half saw some great defensive play from Haydn and several near misses on goal from the Lions.

Aylesbur
