#207 susan, 23 February 2010, 14:52

Pain again, can you recommend a good reference book that would contain the baptism,s and deaths for Edlesborough church so I can investigate the Horton family in depth, I have managed to find out right back to Joseph Horton in 1841 census

#208 Tom n Harry, 23 February 2010, 19:08

Thornes farmhouse is still there but its surrounded by houses now..........A good place to start your search would be Bucks Records Office........Centre For Buckinghamshire Studies,Walton Street,Aylesbury,Bucks,HP20 1UU...Archive Searchroom,Tel 01296 382587...Email..archives@buckscc.gov.uk........Probably the best web site for parish records is familysearch but always put in at least +or- 2 years on any search...And theres always us if you need any more help

Thanks

#273 susan, 17 March 2010, 15:03

sorry I am looking for the childred of william archie and florence

#274 Tom n Harry, 17 March 2010, 15:29

Only have very early parish records from 1559-1812.The records you are looking for around 1920s will be on microfiche at Beds Records Office....
There is a cemetary in Bower Lane as you come into the village. It looks empty but it is in fact so full that the parish council are looking for more land. Most of the markers were made of wood and have rotted over the years so many graves are now unmarked. We are hoping to have a database for Bower Lane very soon.....Will have a look for Children of William Archie and Florence on Ancestry.

#275 Tom n Harry, 17 March 2010, 15:47

Found 2 at the moment born Horton with mothers maiden name Lewis.......Valda Horton reg Leighton Buzzard March 1915 vol 3b page 600...Ivy W Horton reg Leighton Buzzard March 1917 vol 3b page 548......If you are doing leg work around the church yards you may find Hortons in Totternhoe.

recently discovered Fred Bird (g Grand) sister Ann married Mark Sharratt they had 4 children, one of which was George, George went to Ogden Weber, Utah USA where he married Mary Slade in 1914 , I am hoping there is a connection to Constance Horton, going out to America as a young child, I now know where the Sharratt family come in, as my grandad and nan (alfred Horton) visited the Sharratts and spent every Xmas day with them , just thought I would let you know as info might be of interest to someone

#279 Tom n Harry, 21 March 2010, 19:24

Susan...I dont know if you have seen it but there is a Sharratt on the history page in "Those who served" with the initial A. Could be Alfred but dont know.

On the web you can access a site about Utah since statehood, historical and biographical. In this book you can find a section on George Sharratt, a up and coming business man who was the owner of the Ogden City Floral Company , who arrived on the shores on the New World on the 10th August 1906 and made his way straight to Utah he took out naturalization papers and became a citizen of Ogden in 1918 in 1922 he must have been on a visit with his daughter Dorothy, thanks for your info Tom n Harry

#296 susan odell, 4 April 2010, 16:11

Any ideas if Rose Bird 1876 got married around this area

#297 Tom n Harry, 4 April 2010, 16:28

Hi Susan.....Rose is at home with parents age 25 in 1901.Cant find her in 1911 and cant find a marriage between these dates. But,there is a death that fits.......Rose Bird reg Luton March 1905 vol 3b page 280 age 29..Might not be her but it could be worth following up.

#298 Tom n Harry, 4 April 2010, 16:39

There are 2 births for Rose Bird in Bedfordshire December 1876,1 in Luton and the other which is your Rose in Leighton Buzzard so death could be Rose reg Luton.......Did your Rose have a middle name?

#299 Tom n Harry, 4 April 2010, 16:45

ROSA on 1891 and 1901 census....also Rosa reg Leighton Buzzard Dec 1875.

#300 Tom n Harry, 4 April 2010, 17:00

Sorry , found her in 1911.Still at home but her age is wrong by 10 years!!

#301 Tom n Harry, 5 April 2010, 11:42

Thought Rosa might have gone to America as well but cant find her on Ellis Island. Nothing in Hendon with Gertrude either.Could have moved in with Laura And Arthur.Might be worth you posting on GR for an electrol roll look up.I think there is a thread on there that will do it......On another note have you seen photos on the history page. There is a photo of Eaton Bray football team from the 50s with a Bill Sharratt top left.Could be one of yours.

#307 susan, 8 April 2010, 18:05

Found out Gertrude went to America in 1930,a widow to join her sister Ruth who  married an American Joseph Curran , Ruth came and took Constance Horton to America in 1912 ruth and her husband adopted Constance so she became a Curran, In the American census, Ruth was a widow living with Gertrude and Constance. Ruth married Jospeh in America  in 1904 Illinois, Have not got a clue where she may have met him, thought I would share this info. Will take your tip about Rosa/Rose

#308 Tom n Harry, 12 April 2010, 07:49

Susan...Dont know if you have seen it, but there is another site for Eaton Bray. They have a good photo album and page 15 shows Yew Tree Farm owned by the Sharratts.
