Hi,

Still on my research of family.

I am trying to work out the MOTHER of two children born to Alfred Frederick Turpin (1862 Dunstable to 1906 Biggleswade).

The children are:

Alfred Turpin born approx 1893 Dunstable.

Harry or Harold Turpin born approx 1895 Luton.

Alfred Frederick, already had two children to Mary Jane Mooring (1861-1889) they were:

Nellie 1883
Mabel 1886-1976

Alfred Frederick then went on to marry Eliza Ann Dyer 6 May 1896.

Any information would be helpful in regards to the two boys.

Thanks.

Hi Vanessa...You may have to order the birth certs to be sure although I can't find a registration for Alfred in Bedfordshire around the date's. The nearest I can get for Harold is 1893 but they are all on 1901 census with the date's you state. Will keep searching.....One thing that seems odd is that on the first marriage to Mary Jane Mooring the groom is registered as Frederick Alfred and on the second marriage to Eliza Ann Dyer he is registered as Alfred Frederick.

Thanks Tom n Harry.

It is a little complicated.  Like you when looking saw that dates didn't correspond.  At first I wondered if their mother was actually Mary Jane and that she might have died giving birth or soon after, but didn't find anything to put it all together.

Be wonderful if you do come across anything, thanks again.

Vanessa...Have you got anything else on them like a date for baptism.

Sorry Tom n Harry, that is the only information on them.  I didn't know they existed till finding out that Eliza had married Alfred Turpin and was trying to just put all of his children into the family tree properly.  The census was the only information I found.

Vanessa,

The reason the two Turpin boys were not found in the index was that they were registered as Dyers. So they were full brothers to the children born after the marriage of Alfred Frederick Turpin and Eliza Ann Dyer.
Alfred Frederick Dyer Dec qu 1892 Luton Dis 3b 390
Henry Dyer Dec qu 1894 Luton Dis  3b 381

I have also found a marriage for Alfred to Minnie L. Worsley Mar qu 1921 Luton Dis 3b 866. At least I am assuming this is the son and not another marriage of the father.

By the way I descend from Turpins much earlier. The name was originally Torpyn and they came in from Edlesborough. I have tried to trace descendants but there is a gap when they were being mentioned as not attending church so there are at least two missing generations before family members start appearing again in records.

My connection is Agnes Turpin who married Richard Sibley. She was a daughter of Harrye Torpyn baptized in Edlesborough 23 Jul 1576 to Harrye Torpyn & Margaryt Hopkins. Agnes was also the daughter of Agnes Bawdry and baptized 1 May 1603 in Eaton Bray.

Thank you Charlotte for the new information.

The family seems to be getting bigger and bigger, seems Eliza Ann Dyer had a lot of children.  When I first started out my search, I only knew of my great grandmother, thinking she might of been an only child, I was very wrong.

hello Vanessa i too am looking back trying to assemble a family tree, and if I have the correct albert turpin, born 1892 I think that he is my grandfather.my mums mum married Alfred turpin in 1968 after living together for many years and having 7 children.if he is the right Alfred turpin then that would make eliza my great grandmother. its all a bit vague at the mo,as all we know about him is he was born in 1892 in Dunstable. if you have anymore info I would love to hear it,thanks

Hello Darren,

It does sound like there is a connection.

I can send you more information through email or if you are on ancestry.com, I have a tree on there.

[email protected]

You will find some information and photo's on here of my great grandmother Ethel May Dyer, who was Alfred's sister.  Type the name into the search bar.

Hope to hear from you.

Vanessa
